Building information to be opened up
KIRA-digi is aimed at coordinating the building information held in public registers and making it accessible to everyone by means of digitalisation. The digital leap of the built environment and construction sector requires that the information held by the public administration is easily available for different actors to use in their daily work. Smooth information management also creates preconditions for new innovations and business activity.
What kind of problem is the project trying to solve?
A wealth of information is accumulated during the lifecycle of a building, starting from the investment decision and ending in the recycling of the waste created when the building is demolished. Information on the building is required in a number of decision-making processes and measures, but its availability is currently poor. Information is stored repeatedly and with a slightly different content in several systems of the public administration and private actors. Basic information on buildings can be found in the systems of local authorities, the Population Register Centre and the Tax Administration. Information is also created in building management and this data is held by the owner or the building management company
What is done in this project portfolio?
The opening of building information is promoted as cooperation between different administrative branches and projects. Several projects are related to the definition of building information. The key challenge faced by KIRA-digi is how to make the information management solutions developed by different parties interoperable.
For example, the harmonisation of building information and making it accessible for everyone requires that the information content of buildings be standardised. As part of the harmonisation work in KIRA-digi, the main information content of buildings, i.e. the minimum information needed by the users in most cases, will be defined. At the same time, the responsibilities concerning the production and sharing of data will also be determined. Shared interfaces for the minimum information will be prepared in collaboration with the Population Register Centre.
The opening of building information is also supported by the work on the enterprise architecture of the built environment, the standardisation road map and the terminology work in the sector, all of which are part of KIRA-digi.
