Piloting environment for new technologies in sheltered housing
It should be possible to test new sheltered housing innovations before developing them into products and services. The project of Metropolia University of Applied Sciences provides a testing environment for students, researchers and companies.
What kind of problem is the project trying to solve?
The piloting environment enables versatile testing of new technologies developed for sheltered housing. The unit simulates the living conditions at home.
Objective: To provide testing for techniques that improve life at home.
The aim is to create a test and piloting environment to the Myllypuro campus of Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. In this unit, research would be conducted on technologies and equipment that can be used in sheltered housing and in the home environment. The objective is to create better and more functional digital services for senior citizens living at home.
What is done in this project?
People want to live at home as long as possible when they get older. Assistive devices and technologies that facilitate day-to-day life are required for assisted living at home. The test environment of Metropolia University of Applied Sciences provides the opportunity to test the compatibility of different devices and to look for something that could provide additional value to assisted living solutions.
Different technologies can be combined through cloud-based technologies. The provider can get help from others who carry out testing or from students.
Test environments exist at three levels: a digital environment, a controlled simulation and a genuine environment, which in Metropolia's plans is the service centre soon to be renovated beside the campus area.
Who benefits?
Students, researchers and companies developing technologies for sheltered housing. More companies interested in the topic are sought for the project.
Piloting environment for digitalisation in sheltered housing
The Metropolia University of Applied Sciences piloting environment for digitalisation in sheltered housing will be in use from the beginning of 2019. It will be located on Metropolia's new campus in Myllypuro, Helsinki.
Duration: 16 January 2017–31 December 2018
