Interactive 3D service for city development
The project is developing a 3D service that can be accessed with only a browser and through which the parties involved in developing a city centre can interactively generate and view the future cityscape of this centre. Using a mobile device, the future cityscape of a city area can be viewed on the spot.
What kind of problem is this project trying to solve?
The challenges facing developers of city centres are the dispersed ownership of land in city centres and the fact that several parties are simultaneously involved in developing the city. More interaction is needed in the development work, with the aim of also involving the city’s residents.
The project aims to find solutions for brainstorming, information management, visualisation of solutions, sharing and interaction among several different actors. With the user-oriented 3D service, the various parties would be able to communicate with one another better when generating the future landscape of their city.
Objective: interactive service for developing city centres
This experimental project seeks to accelerate change in the ways of working used in city development and to enable the testing of various models and development tracks.
The users of the service are city organisations, built environment and construction sector businesses operating in the area and the cities’ residents.
The future landscape of a specific location can be viewed on location with a mobile device, and various parties can have discussions through a social media channel integrated into the service.
The 3D service developed during the project, the experiences gained from the project and the future landscapes generated with the service will be used when developing the city centre of Hyvinkää in the future. After the experiment, other cities could adopt a similar work method and technological solutions, and make use of the experiences gained in project.
The 3D service will be published on the internet, and the work method developed in the project and the project’s outcomes will be described openly.
Who benefits?
City residents, various units in the municipalities, property owners and companies in the built environment and construction sector.
