Hands-on tests of digital tools in the concrete construction industry
The DigiConcrete concept developed and tested by actors of the concrete construction industry brings digital methods into concrete quality assurance and improvement of productivity.
What kind of problem is the project trying to solve?
While concrete is the most commonly used material in construction worldwide, there are still challenges that compromise the quality of concrete and problems that affect schedules involved in the industrial use of concrete. Improvement is required in the measurement methods used in the concrete construction process and automation, as well as the communication between responsible parties.
Objective: Improved quality and productivity in concrete construction
The objective of the DigiConcrete project is to improve both the productivity and the quality assurance in the concrete construction industry. We develop and test new digital methods for ensuring quality at every stage of the production chain.
What is done in this project?
The project tests new digital methods for concrete production, transportation, casting and curing in real-life construction site conditions. We pay particular attention to improving the flow of information in the concrete construction process, developing measurement methods and the use of artificial intelligence in the sector.
What are the expected results of the experiment?
The objective of the experiment is to gain better insight into the feasibility of the areas of improvement identified by the DigiConcrete working group in field conditions, their usefulness and practicability for the industry.
Who benefits?
The results of the project benefit the entire Finnish concrete construction industry.
