Digital zoning
FCG Design and Engineering’s digital zoning project develops new practices and technical solutions for digital zoning.
At the moment, the zoning process in municipalities is based exclusively on materials received by experts and on information management. The zoning materials specified in the Land Use and Building Act are stored in paper form or only the pertinent regulations and map markings are digitised into an information system. The system is often managed and maintained by a third party without the municipality or city having access to its own digital materials. One of the aims of the two-year digital zoning project is to tackle these challenges.
The purpose of the project is to
create and develop practices and technical solutions for digital zoning through agile methods and numerous fast-cycle pilots within an environment that has been clearly defined for the zoning process.
facilitate and accelerate the zoning process by removing excess, streamlining, and timing the interaction practices to afford more flexibility and communication channels between the various interest groups.
prepare a database-based zoning plan and publication channel (FCG Digikaava) to improve information management and accessibility for all stakeholders. This also enables the simultaneous preparation of parallel and subordinate plans in a way that the parties who need the information can access it and comment in real time.
The project will involve the implementation of a digital zoning plan which will improve the efficiency of the zoning process
- Resources are saved as zoning processes take less time
- Interaction between the parties in the zoning process is increased
- The transparency of the process is increased
- The FCG Digikaava application facilitates the management and maintenance of information
- Digital archive: unified storage and format, later utilisation of materials
- Project participants receive a licence for the FCG Digikaava application for 2017 and 2018
The project will update the Finnish construction field and zoning processes
- Image-related benefits for the pioneering municipalities involved in the project
- Visibility for participants
Joint development between municipalities
- Information sharing, learning through the project
The zoning materials are collected into a suitable database and published through WMS/WFS interfaces connected to FCG’s 3D CityInfo application. CityInfo uses the open browser-based MAPGETS platform.
