Cleaning robot for construction sites
In its project, NCC Suomi Oy will develop a prototype of a vacuum cleaner robot for the needs of construction sites.
What kind of problem is the project trying to solve?
At construction sites, it is important to remove dust constantly at different stages of the building process. If the work is carried out by people, it will incur significant costs. Cleaning work can be partly automated, however, at the moment there are no middle-sized cleaning robots available in the market.
Objective: Cost-effective dust control for construction sites
The main objective of the project is to create a prototype of a cleaning robot that can be commercialised and an algorithm that can be used for optimising the route of the robot. In addition, the usability of the robot in construction site conditions and its movability on wheels will be studied. The project aims at improving the cleanliness and dust control at construction sites in a cost-effective manner.
What is done in this project?
In the project, a prototype of a cleaning robot that moves automatically at the construction site will be developed on the Finnish Pulurobot platform. The vacuum cleaner part will be an industrial vacuum cleaner and a battery pack that supplies energy to the vacuum cleaner. The robot uses a 3D camera to scan its surroundings and builds a model of its surroundings for navigation. The model will be combined with the BIM. The robot must be able to identify and go around changing obstacles, such as ladders and lifters, as well as the materials and tools at the construction site. The robot will be remote monitored and operated.
Who benefits?
The results of the project benefit the participating partners, the construction sector and construction materials industry.
