Accelerating the spread of electric cars
One of the obstacles preventing the spread of electric cars is the small number of charging stations. This project develops a service in which anyone can sell electricity to anyone else. With the service, a charging network for electric cars could be formed fast and effortlessly.
What kind of problem is the project trying to solve?
At the moment, the main obstacles preventing the spread of electric cars are the high price of electric cars, the short distance an electric car can cover with one charge and the small number of charging stations.
However, the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Transport and Communications have highlighted electric vehicles (cars, lorries, buses and bikes) as one possible solution in the mitigation of carbon dioxide emissions in the near future. Solutions for removing the obstacles that prevent the spread of electric cars must be sought and built.
Objective: to develop a service and an application for selling electricity
The objective of the eChargie 1.0 project is to build a product and application platform enabling a fast and effortless creation of a network of charging points for electric cars.
The project will create an EaaS (Energy as a Service) service in which anyone can sell electricity to anyone else. If the Energy as a Service thinking model can be expanded to the charging of electric cars, consumers' attitude to buying electric cars is likely to change and the number of users will increase.
With the range of services built and tested in the project, it is possible to start using the already existing infrastructure of the built environment fast and effortlessly to expand the network of charging points for electric cars.
Who benefits?
Users of electric cars and those who are considering buying one – and all Finns as a result of decreasing emissions
