Updating the process of rock excavation by drilling to the digital age
This project develops and trials a new kind of digital process in rock excavation by drilling to replace a paper-based planning process.
What kind of problem is the project trying to solve?
A paper-based process of measuring the drill holes and monitoring the actual drill holes is laborious. In the new process, planned data concerning drilling and the exact actual data on the drill holes is managed centrally in a cloud service. The drill rigs communicate with the cloud service through open API interfaces.
Objective: integration of drill rigs into the digital flow of information
The objective is to integrate surface drill rigs to the digital flow of information in the project. Digital plans are transmitted from the cloud to the steering systems of the drill rigs and the details from the actual drilling are transmitted back to the cloud service to be used in the work stages that follow. The project develops a prototype of the integration and trials it in a construction site environment.
Who benefits?
Everyone involved in planning and construction. The cloud service enables easy monitoring and administration of the worksite when intelligent data on how the project progresses can be distributed and received in real time. Projects will be completed faster, their quality will be better and there will be fewer errors in the projects – this all will culminate in considerable savings in construction costs.
